Toronto, Ontario
Anastazia Kondratiuk and her three youngest daughters – Angela (or Nellie as she was then called), Millie and Alice Bobowsky – lived at 284 Crawford Street from late 1938* until early 1940. It was probably the first Toronto residence of Anastazia, Millie and Alice who had recently moved from Winnipeg. Angela, who had been living with her sister Olga in Toronto, moved in with her mother and younger sisters. The 1939 Toronto directory lists Mrs. M. Bobbs at this address. The 1940 Toronto Directory lists Mrs. M. Bobbs as well as Nellie (Angela). In early 1940 the women moved about 750 metres north to 195 Beatrice Street.
The house at 284 Crawford today is listed as a three storey, four bedroom Victorian townhouse in the Trinity Bellwoods neighbourhood. The third storey was probably added after Anastazia and her family lived here.
Footnotes
- * Henderson’s 1938 Winnipeg Directory lists Anastazia and her family living at 780 College Street in Winnipeg. Might’s 1939 Toronto Directory shows them living at 284 Crawford Street in Toronto. Data for the directories was typically collected in the second half of the prior year. This suggests that the family moved to Toronto in late 1938 or early 1939.
